New offering: women’s retreat on bread and life

It seems hard to believe that I haven’t gathered around the kitchen table to contemplate both bread and life with a group of women since before COVID! It’s time to get our hands back into the dough bowl! Join me at the Abbey of the Genesee from April 28 – 30 to do just that! The Abbey is located in Pifford, NY, near Geneseo. We’ll be crafting focaccia, fougasse, savory stuffed breads, and sourdough scones. Together, we’ll reflect on the ingredients not only of bread but the ingredients that make up our lives, how we’re mixing them together, the value of rest, and what might be transforming in, and around, us!

I first began visiting the Abbey when I was healing from the loss of my mother. I found myself inspired by the Trappist Monks who were baking Monks bread as an integral part of their lives. Though I never baked alongside the monks I felt a sense of kinship with them having grown up feasting on, among other things, my grandmother’s Sicilian stuffed breads. During my time at the Abbey I often wrote blog posts for Kneading Life and planned my workshops and retreats. Since that first visit, nearly ten years ago, it has been a dream of mine to gather women at the Abbey to bake. Come join me!

Though this is not a religious retreat, during the weekend, there will be time to visit the abbey if you like. You can also walk along the Genesee Valley Greenway, join a guided morning meditation, or just relax on your own! More details can be found below! Space is limited to 15 participants. All abilities welcome!
